The Spoond story begins with founder Emi Takakura.
Growing up, Emi spent time in Tokyo, where she was surrounded by a rich and creative food culture. That experience shaped her love of quality, flavour and thoughtful food experiences. After returning to Ireland and working across food and drink, product development and marketing, Emi decided to create something of her own.
In 2021, Spoond was born.
Her idea was simple but distinctive: to create a hot chocolate that felt thicker, creamier and more luxurious than the standard drinking chocolate many people were used to. Inspired by European-style hot chocolate, Spoond is designed to be rich, smooth and properly chocolatey.
Just a few months after launching, Spoond won Gold at Blas na hÉireann, the Irish Food Awards, helping put this small Irish brand firmly on the map.
