Meet the Makers: Miena’s Nougat & Second Street Brittle

Meet the Maker | Crisps, Snacks & Nibbles

At Gourmet Grocer, we love products that feel like a proper treat. The kind of sweet that makes a cup of coffee feel more special, finishes a gift hamper beautifully, or gives you a little moment of indulgence during the day.

Miena’s Nougat and Second Street Brittle are two of those products.

Both are Irish-made, full of character and crafted with care, but each brings something completely different to the shelves. Miena’s is all about soft, chewy, handmade nougat inspired by nature and filled with fruit, nuts and colour. Second Street is all buttery crunch, chocolate coating and that irresistible balance of salty and sweet.

Together, they are a brilliant celebration of Irish sweet-making: thoughtful, premium and made for people who appreciate a treat with a story behind it.

Miena’s Nougat: Handmade in the Garden of Ireland

Miena’s Irish Handmade Nougat began in County Wicklow in 2010, when Miena turned her passion for food into a small nougat-making business from her kitchen.

Today, Miena’s is still made in the Garden of Ireland, in a small production facility beside the original home kitchen where it all began. The nougat is handmade in small batches by Miena and her team, using fresh ingredients and recipes inspired by nougat traditions from France to South Africa.

The result is a soft Irish nougat that feels beautifully different from ordinary confectionery. It is chewy, delicate, colourful and packed with flavour.

Soft, Sweet and Full of Texture

Miena’s Nougat is made for slow enjoyment. It has that lovely soft chew that melts gently as you eat it, with flavours that often bring together nuts, fruit and natural inspiration from the Wicklow countryside.

Their range includes nougat bars, slabs and selection boxes, with flavours featuring ingredients such as almonds, pistachios, strawberries, rhubarb, passionfruit and chocolate.

It is the kind of sweet treat that feels elegant without being overly formal. A piece of nougat with coffee, a square after dinner, or a few bars tucked into a hamper can add colour, softness and a lovely artisan feel.

Miena’s is also a great example of how Irish confectionery can feel both nostalgic and modern. It has the comfort of a traditional sweet, but with a fresh, handcrafted style that makes it feel special.

Second Street Brittle: Buttery, Crunchy and Chocolatey

Second Street Bakeshop brings a completely different kind of indulgence.

Based in Cork, Second Street was founded by Claire, an experienced sweet treat creator who previously founded Clairesquares, a shortbread, caramel and chocolate cookie company in San Francisco. After returning home to Ireland, Claire created Second Street’s premium toffee brittle: buttery, crunchy, salty, sweet and coated in Belgian chocolate.

It is the kind of treat that delivers everything in one bite. There is the snap of brittle, the richness of toffee, the smoothness of chocolate and just enough salt to keep you going back for another piece.

Premium Brittle with Proper Crunch

Second Street Brittle is made with premium, all-natural ingredients and comes in flavours such as milk chocolate sea salt, dark chocolate sea salt, roasted hazelnut, mint dark chocolate and dairy-free options.

It is naturally gluten free, making it a thoughtful choice for gifting and sharing. The texture is one of the best things about it: crisp, buttery and satisfying, with chocolate coating that makes it feel extra indulgent.

Second Street is perfect for anyone who loves a sweet treat with a bit of contrast. It is not just sugary; it has depth, crunch, saltiness and richness all working together.

Serve it with coffee, crumble it over ice cream, add it to a dessert board, or simply enjoy a piece straight from the bag when you want something properly satisfying.

Why We Love Them at Gourmet Grocer

Miena’s Nougat and Second Street Brittle are exactly the kind of products we are proud to stock at Gourmet Grocer. They are Irish-made, beautifully crafted and ideal for customers who enjoy something a little more special than everyday sweets.

They also work brilliantly in hampers. Miena’s adds colour, softness and a handmade artisan feel, while Second Street brings crunch, chocolate and a premium treat element. Together, they create a lovely balance of textures and flavours.

They sit beautifully alongside many of our other favourite products too, from coffee and hot chocolate to Irish preserves, biscuits, chocolate, wine and after-dinner treats.

For customers looking for a gift, these are easy choices. They feel thoughtful, Irish and indulgent without being too formal. For customers shopping for themselves, they are exactly the kind of treat worth keeping in the cupboard.

Perfect for Gifting, Coffee Breaks and Dessert Boards

Good sweet treats should be easy to enjoy, and both of these brands make that simple.

Pair Miena’s Nougat with coffee, tea or a glass of something sparkling. Add it to a sweet grazing board with chocolate, fruit, biscuits and nuts. Include it in a gift hamper for someone who loves artisan Irish food.

Enjoy Second Street Brittle with espresso, crumble it over vanilla ice cream, serve it after dinner, or add it to a movie-night treat bowl. It also makes a lovely stocking filler, thank-you gift or small indulgence for someone who appreciates chocolate and toffee.

Whether you prefer soft and chewy or crisp and crunchy, these two makers bring plenty of personality to the table.

A Sweet Taste of Irish Craft

Miena’s Nougat and Second Street Brittle show just how exciting Irish sweet-making can be.

One is rooted in Wicklow, inspired by nature and handmade in small batches. The other brings Cork creativity, chocolate-coated crunch and a bold salty-sweet finish. Both are made with care, both feel gift-worthy, and both bring something memorable to Gourmet Grocer’s shelves.

That is exactly the kind of food story we love to celebrate.

You can find Miena’s Nougat and Second Street Brittle at Gourmet Grocer, 10 High Street, Enniskillen. Call in to explore our range of Irish sweet treats, chocolates, snacks, hampers and carefully selected products, perfect for gifting, sharing and treating yourself.
